Efekt ankieterski: czy zmienia się tylko respondent?
(IFiS Publishers, 1995) Sztabiński, Paweł B.
In seeking for "effect of interviewer" one cannot forget that, presumably, also reciprocal effect - that of respondent on interviewer occurs. In this paper I make use of data coming from the 1994 research on deviant behaviors among youth. Results of correlational analyses reveal certain patterns of association between answers given by respondents and some variables that identify attitudes of interviewers. It shows that interviewers, in fact, change their views on the questions included in the questionnaire as well as they modify expectations concerning answers given by respondents. Author asserts that these changing attitudes and expectations may be transmitted from one respondents to the others what results in "secondary" interviewer effect". This suggests that bias due to the "effect of interviewer" has broader underpinnings than it was established by now.

Dlaczego zawód? Problemy pomiaru położenia społecznego w badaniach socjologicznych
    (IFiS Publishers, 1995) Domański, Henryk
Occupational position comes to be the most popular indicator of social status in sociological analyses. In what follows I put forward arguments supporting validity of this approach. I present: (1) theoretical rationale pointing out that occupational divisions determine basic areas of social structuration in contemporary societies, (2) empirical findings showing that occupational status is valid indicator of various attributes of the social status, (3) arguments that occupational data are well manageable in operative terms: i.e. in stage of collection of data during fieldwork and in coding. This paper is supposed to be first from the series reporting on research aimed at improvement of analytical value of occupational status in sociological surveys carried out in Poland.

Kontrola w badaniach surveyowych: pytania i odpowiedzi

It aims to cast some light on the questions concerning control of interviewers in survey research. Control is regarded here as constitutive link in attempts to improve quality of the fieldwork both on the part of process of interviewing and on the part of collected data. I argue that controlling design is organized around three following questions: (l) what is to be controlled (subject), (2) to what extent (scope), (3) which method of control applies (technique). Basing on these criteria one can figure out several various schemes of control. Adding to these, the choice of specific schema should be informed by the question of validity of data received from control.

Problem sponsora w badaniach sondażowych w Polsce
    (IFiS Publishers, 1995) Gostkowski, Zygmunt
Bearing in mind that opinions are social behavior as affected by group's affiliations and views on who sponsors survey and utilizes data, the paper aims at showing various effects of these views on behaviors and answers given by respondents. This relates to the question of the ban to reveal respondents the sponsor's name - by virtue of the international code of survey research. Author of this paper objects reasons staying behind this ban on the ground of both the moral-social and quality of research questions. The rationale presented here is that knowledge about sponsor tends to anchorage responses making them authentically social, verbal behaviors. Some hypotheses are put forward concerning effect of the knowledge about sponsor on opinions given by respondents as well as an announcement is made as regards presentation of findings aimed to test these relationships.

Zakaz publikacji wyników sondaży w kampanii wyborczej 1993. Prawo i życie
    (IFiS Publishers, 1995) Sułek, Antoni
In parliamentary election 1993, the ban on publication of results of opinion polls prompted a contentious debate already in preparation of the election rule. During electoral campaign it was overlooked, broken and exploited for political purposes. I will show, here, how this ban was enacted and how it worked in 1993 electoral campaign. Some conclusions with respect to this question will be made. The analysis is based on official documentation of Parliament, State Electoral Comission, the Highest Court as well as newspapers, TV and radio broadcastings.

This is summary overview of some most distinctive tendencies emerging in area of social research in the first half of the 1990s. We figure out: (1) expansion of public opinion and (2) market research, (3) increasing participation of Polish sociologists in international research projects, (4) attempts made in sociological milieux, aimed at regulation of research activity in terms of setting ethical codes and formal rules of conduct at consecutive stages of research, (5) urgent need for archivization of empirical data, (6) development of new methods of collection of data and new analytical techniques based on computer packages.
