    Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

    The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, sponsored by the IRS, offers free, high-quality tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less. Fisher College of Business students in the Master of Accounting program and Beta Alpha Psi go through an extensive training process and become IRS-certified volunteers, enabling them to provide basic tax return preparation and e-filing services to taxpayers in the community.

    Violence Intervention with Black Youth

    Our Violence Intervention services use proven mediation techniques that work and keep black urban neighborhoods safe. Conflict meditations are facilitated by trained gang specialists that have intervened in numerous altercations and prevented violence. We mediate conflict between risk taking youth who are often times gang members or drug dealers. Our mediators have a way of getting through to individuals involved in conflict. We find nonviolent solutions to the problems that exist in the black community.

    Toy Adaptation Program: Connecting for Expansion

    The mission of the Toy Adaptation Program (TAP) is to provide hands-on educational opportunities to students, while making a positive societal impact through the modification of electronic toys. Engineering students apply problem-solving and technical skills to adapt toys for children with special needs. The toys are donated to toy lending libraries or directly to families. By developing a connection between academia and the community, TAP strives to address social issues through experiential learning.

    Theatre Arts Group

    Theatre Arts Group (TAG) seeks to provide opportunities for creative, artistic expression to underserved students of the Columbus area through theatre experiences, theatre education, and mentorship. We mentor and teach 20-25 students at a local high school, Columbus North International School, performing a show, putting on open mic nights, and taking them to local performances. Additionally, we began new programming in an elementary school, Hubbard Mastery School, teaching theater to 48 third grade children.

    The Urban Farm at Southeast Ohio Regional Kitchen

    The Urban Farm at Southeast Ohio Regional Kitchen provides a stream of fresh locally grown produce available to Hocking County senior citizens using Senior Farmer's Market vouchers through the Ohio Area Agency on Aging. Extension developed a plan, partnered with local sponsors, and constructed an urban farm on land behind the local food bank. Vegetables and herbs are grown using bio-intensive production techniques, harvested and delivered based on menu choices and seasonality.

    Total Health and Wellness: A Team Approach to Primary Care

    Total Health and Wellness is a nurse practitioner-led primary care office which focuses on the provision of evidence based medicine through an interdisciplinary team approach: Primary care to individuals of all ages through our adult and family NPs, Mental health care through our psychiatric mental health NP and counselor, Preventative care through our dietician and certified diabetes educator, Comprehensive chronic disease state education and management through our clinical pharmacist, Plan management through close follow-up with our RN Care Coordinator, Assistance through our licensed social worker when needed.

    Center for Clinical and Translational Science Community Engagement Program

    The mission of the Community Engagement Program at CCTS is to improve the health of communities through research/outreach collaborations with community members and agencies, especially in areas where health disparities are pronounced. We are liaisons between researchers and the community offering consultations on effective community-engaged research strategies and providing support for partnership-based research projects. The CCTS is an NIH-funded collaboration among OSU, Nationwide Children's Hospital, the OSU Wexner Medical Center, and the Appalachian Translational Research Network.

    The Ohio State University Endeavor Center

    Open since 2005, The Ohio State University Endeavor Center, a 27,000 square-foot mixed-use business incubator, has come to be recognized as a community leader in economic development, business training, and technological excellence. The original 26 permanent office spaces were expanded to 31 to satisfy demand for the flexible and professional office space provided in the facility for new and growing businesses. The latest renovation was completed to house the Manufacturing and Technology Small Business Development Specialist – a position designed to provide assistance for small manufacturers in Southern Ohio. The facility housed 24 individual businesses during the year and operated at 100% of its original occupancy capability. Endeavor Center business partners continually drive a surge in hiring, adding high-skill, high-wage positions throughout the year.

    The UNITY Fridge

    This program aims to increase produce accessibility through campus community connection. A community garden will be created on Waterman Farm that will be managed by students from Ohio State. The produce grown at that plot will be placed in five different sites that are located in food deserts. The produce will be delivered bi-weekly to twelve families per site.

    The Summer Success Kindergarten Readiness Camp

    Summer Success was developed to provide children with limited preschool experience who are at risk for poor kindergarten readiness with high quality instruction on academic, socialemotional, and motor skills through authentic and integrated learning experiences. The 140- hour camp is intended to bridge research and practice and operates through a collaboration among various community organizations and researchers committed to early childhood education.

We are leading a nationwide initiative to curb distracted driving utilizing a four-tiered approach - research, legislation, technology, and environment/urban planning.

    The Ohio State University Airport

    The airport is the primary general aviation facility serving central Ohio, and a vital transportation link connecting Central Ohio businesses to the global economy, and visitors from across the country to the diverse attractions and activities found in our region. The airport is the fourth busiest airport in Ohio and one of the top 100 busiest general aviation airports in the United States. The airport is categorized by the Federal Aviation Administration as one of only 84 National Priority facility, which highlights its status relative to the nation's nearly 3,000 general aviation airports.

    The OHIO Project

    As part of OSU's mission of service learning, the College of Dentistry is working to address the number one unmet health need in Ohio - access to dental care. Through the OHIO Project, the College of Dentistry trains excellent, socially aware dental practitioners. Students receive clinical training in a variety of settings, including college-based comprehensive care and specialty clinics, as well as community-based dental clinics.

    The Humanities and Cognitive Sciences High School Summer Institute

    The Summer Institute provides a critical thinking forum for rising high school students to explore the big questions at the intersection of the humanities and cognitive sciences. Through daily lectures, interactive discussions, research exploration, and collaborative activities with OSU students and faculty across campus, students will learn central aspects of how this interdisciplinary study can work together to help us understand how we imagine, artistically create, and materially transform the world in which we live.

    The Ohio State University Airport Outreach Program

    The airport provides tours and other educational opportunities, led by Ohio State aviation students, to thousands of students and adults, including programs that offer opportunities to underrepresented populations. The outreach program also offers shadowing opportunities for local high school students and hosts tours for school groups, scouts, and other individuals. In addition, speakers are available to visit local organizations for presentation about the airport's economic role in the community and airport history.

    The BRIDGE: Solve a Complex Issue While Developing Employability Skills

    Empowering students to develop analytical skills that are critical for today's workforce is the overarching theme of this Alber Enterprise Center program. By using common business analysis tools in a logical 6-step sequence, students learn how to solve complex issues while gaining valuable experience in critical thinking, problem solving, team building, decision making, leadership, and project planning.

    The Dental H.O.M.E. (Health Outreach Mobile Experience) Coach

    Dental care is the #1 unmet health care need in Ohio. The College of Dentistry's H.O.M.E. Coach is a mobile dental clinic that helps to bridge this gap by providing oral health care and education to underserved children in Columbus and surrounding communities. The Dental H.O.M.E. Coach is an outreach program that strives to meet the oral health needs of Ohioans in key underserved areas. The program focuses on three main goals: (1) To provide underserved children with oral health care that offers them a dental "home", (2) To expose dental students to an array of hands-on learning experiences that include pediatric dentistry treatments performed under the supervision of OSU faculty members, (3) To positively impact the problem of access to oral health care for Ohio's families.
