Gender Responsive Strategies (IEJ Seminar)

Based on research reported in her National Institute of Corrections-sponsored report on Gender-Responsive Strategies: Research, Practice, and Guiding Principles for Women Offenders (Bloom, Owen & Covington, 2003), Dr. Barbara Bloom, Associate Professor at Sonoma State University discussed: the characteristics of women in correctional settings; research-based theoretical frameworks regarding how gender matters for criminal justice practice; guiding principles for gender responsive policy development; gender responsive treatment approaches; and the implications of research findings for correctional practice for women offenders. Comments were also provided by CSU Assistant Professor Dana Hubbard, OSU Assistant Professor Wendy Smooth and ODRC Warden, Tracy Tyson-Parker.
