The Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute's Burrill Henry Leffingwell Scrapbook Collection contains 34 scrapbooks documenting theatre and film from 1880-1935 with almost encyclopedic coverage of Broadway theatre from 1915-1935 and additional coverage of opera, dance, and film as well as theatre in Boston, Chicago, Paris, Germany, and by touring companies. Materials included in the scrapbooks are items clipped from newspapers and magazines, programs, photographs, tickets, other theatrical ephemera, and handwritten research by the compiler. While the majority of the pages are single layers of materials, volumes include materials placed as overlays; multi-page programs; photographs; advertising materials. The 15 scrapbooks made available here document pre-1923 performance.
