Abstract

The rotationally resolved spectra of 9 vibrational bands of HNC in the $3\mu$m region were recorded in a transverse-flow reactor using laser-photolysis transient infrared absorption spectroscopy. HNC was produced in the reaction of hot H-atoms (generated by laser photolysis of HI at 248nm) with ClCN. A total of $8 \sum \leftarrow \sum$ transitions including $(20^{0}0)\leftarrow(10^{0}0), (30^{0}0)\leftarrow(20^{0}0), (40^{0}0)\leftarrow(30^{0}0), (21^{1}0)\leftarrow(11^{1}0), (31^{1}0)\leftarrow(21^{1}0), (22^{0}0)\leftarrow(12^{0}0), (10^{0}2)\leftarrow(00^{0}2), (20^{0}1)\leftarrow(10^{0}1)$, and $1 \Pi \leftarrow \Pi$ transition, $(22^{2}0) \leftarrow(12^{2}0)$, where analyzed to obtain the $v_{v}, B_{v}, D_{v}, H_{v}, qvJ, qv_{JJ}$, and $\rho$ constants for each band. In addition, the vibrational constants $\omega _{i}$, $x_{ij}$, $g22$ and the rotational constants $\alpha_{i}, \gamma_{11}$, and $\beta_{i}$ were obtained. The results are compared to the recent ab initio vibrational frequencies of Bowman et al. reported in J. Phys. Chem. 97, 8937 (1993).
