dc.description.abstract The photochemical mechanism of biological receptor labeling is ivestigated through the dissociation of model photoaffinity labeling reagents, such as ethyl diazo acetate and phenylazide, to highly reactive carbones and nitrenes with time-resolved laser flash photolysis. Specific assignments of intermediate photoproducts are made based on the lifetimes and electronic spectra observed. In addition, the implications of these intermediate lifetimes on the limitations of active site identification in biochemical applications are discussed. en_US
