Abstract: Measurements of the rates of quenching of specific vibrational-rotational levels of LiH $A^{1}\Sigma$ by Li $2^{2} S$ show very strongly resonant behavior including distance resonance with P and R branch transitions. There are interpreted in terms of resonance energy transfer to form LiH $X^{1}\Sigma$ and Li $2^{2}$P. Semiclassical calculations confirm this mechanism.
